NHL 09 - RELOADED

EA sports brings us another NHL game on PC this year with very minimal graphic improvements and gameplay. I bought the game knowing that they didn't change anything at all aside from a few gameplay tweaks (goaltending is great in this game). However the addition of "Be A Pro" is almost useless compared to its next gen counterpart. The most disappointing thing about this game is that they removed all teh EA online servers leaving us to play against one another in a Peer to Peer fashion. However this has also been improved since the gameplay in P2P mode isn't slower than molasses. I really wish EA would put a little time and effort into making a real hockey game for the PC. Since 08 have they been promising us a"Next Gen" game for the PC. The consoles may have now become more popular but I can assure you that PC gaming is FAR from dead. If They can improve this game via PC, it could rival or even destroy its console counterparts but EA needs to stop being so damn cheap and give us what we want! Also get new commentary.....I'm tired of hearing the same old crap!

There have been plenty of games based on movies in the past, and there seems to be an industry subset devoted solely to pumping out run-of-the-mill action games based loosely on books, TV shows, movies, and cartoons. Enter the Matrix attempts to take the concept to the next level by delivering a new storyline that runs concurrent to the movie it’s based on, The Matrix Reloaded, filling in some of the back story that the movie doesn’t have time to deliver. While there are a few instances in the game where that is indeed the case, the game’s story isn’t strong enough to stand on its own, and the gameplay simply doesn’t save it, making the game worth a look for hard-core fans of The Matrix films, but a buggy disappointment for just about anyone else.
One of the big draws for The Matrix Reloaded fans is the fact that Enter the Matrix features new sequences shot specifically for the game.
Enter the Matrix focuses on two side characters named Niobe and Ghost. You’ll see both characters sparingly throughout the film, but they rarely get any meaningful screen time. However, it’s assumed that the duo is off doing something important when they aren’t hanging out with Neo, Trinity, and the rest of the film’s principal characters. The game proves that assumption correct, as you’ll pick up the story just after the conclusion of one of the short stories that make up The Animatrix and make your way from mission to mission until you reach the game’s conclusion, which takes place around the same time as the end of the film. The game’s story is very fast and loose, and it assumes that you’re already familiar with the film. Even the game’s FMV ending is little more than a “Whew, that was close” sequence with a trailer for the film thrown in for good measure. There is a smattering of FMV used throughout the game, but most of the noninteractive sequences are rendered with the game’s engine.
Enter the Matrix’s engine delivers a pretty standard third-person action game. You’re able to fire weapons and engage in hand-to-hand combat against a collection of foes. Most of the fighting puts you up against security guards, cops, and SWAT forces, but you’ll also face the Matrix’s own brand of vampires, as well as a couple of well-placed run-ins with life-threatening agents. The game is objective-driven. It opens with your character in a post office, trying to get to a specific PO box to retrieve some information. As you make your way through the game, you’ll chase after airplanes in an SUV, rescue captured rebels, navigate a sewer system, destroy a nuclear power plant, and fight off a sentinel attack from on board your ship, the Logos. None of the objectives are fleshed out terribly well, and it’s difficult to really get a feel for what, exactly, your team is doing and how, exactly, it ties into the plot of the film. Sections also stop and start very, very abruptly, as the game pauses to load up new sequences or give you the opportunity to save quite often.
Enter the Matrix’s engine delivers a pretty standard third-person action game.
The Matrix may have been credited with bringing the slow-motion “bullet time” effect to the big screen, but games like Max Payne have already brought the effect–which slows time down to give you cleaner shots and more control of your character–to video games. Enter the Matrix, of course, uses this effect, and it’s governed by a “focus” meter. You can use focus at the touch of a button, and it does things like let you run up walls, jump farther, and cartwheel out of the way of oncoming bullets. The ironic thing is that you really don’t need to use the effect all that often, as the enemy AI is easily dispatched by hitting the action button to disarm them and then finishing up with some quick punches and kicks. You’ll pick up an array of guns along the way, and it’s quite easy to just pump enemies full of lead rather than bother with your kung fu skills. The AI in the game is also a bit of a mess, so you can expect to see things like enemy cops running into a wall and staying there, enemies clipping through walls and doors instead of running around to get to you, and so on. The game is rarely difficult, and like in Activision’s recent movie game, X2: Wolverine’s Revenge, you can simply stand still for a minute or so and regain all your health, which takes away almost all the tension. Short chapters and frequent saves combine to prevent you from ever having to replay lengthy sequences, should you actually die.

Stepping off a boat in the shoes of illegal immigrant Niko Bellic as he arrives in Liberty City at the start of Grand Theft Auto IV, you can tell immediately that Rockstar North's latest offering is something quite special. Yes, this is another GTA game in which you'll likely spend the bulk of your time stealing cars and gunning down cops and criminals, but it's also much more than that. GTAIV is a game with a compelling and nonlinear storyline, a game with a great protagonist who you can't help but like, and a game that boasts a plethora of online multiplayer features in addition to its lengthy story mode. It's not without some flaws, but GTAIV is undoubtedly the best Grand Theft Auto yet.
One of the many things that set GTAIV apart from its predecessors is Liberty City, which is more convincing as a living, breathing urban environment than anything that you've seen in a game before, and bears little resemblance to its namesake in 2001's GTAIII. Liberty's diverse population believably attempts to go about its daily business, seemingly unaware that several criminal factions are at war in the city. Niko has no such luck. He's compelled to start working for one of the factions shortly after arriving, when he learns that his cousin Roman has some potentially fatal gambling debts. Niko's military experience makes him a useful freelancer for employers in the business of killing each other, and though his reluctance to carry out their orders is often apparent, he does whatever is asked of him in the hope that completing missions for other people will ultimately give him the means to complete his own.

The Temple of Elemental Evil

Many years ago in the land of Flanaess, an evil demoness founded a cult dedicated to elemental evil, the four elements as symbols of true evil, and based it in a temple outside the village of Nulb. Eventually, after years of tyranny and chaos, the good armies of the nearby lands, headed by the infamous Circle of Eight descended into the temple and razed it, imprisoning the villains inside. For years thereafter-relative peace ensued, as daring adventurers slew the remaining monsters that ravaged the land above and the temple itself faded into but a distant memory until now. Bandits have begun to patrol the roads outside Hommlet and Nulb again. Wicked forces are rumored to be afoot, converging on the ruined temple for malevolent purposes.

Sublustrum combines elements of classical Myst-like adventure games, along with author’s approach to visual and audio environment. Interactive soundtrack has been designed for the game by Anthesteria project. The plot brings up aspects of irrational and subconscious dream viewing and near death experience. The main character, a mid-aged writer, who has recently got back from long-term wanderings in North Seas, receives an invitation letter from his brother – a scientist and professor at a university, whom he hasn’t seen for years, and decides to visit him.

However upon arrival, the writer receives news about sudden disappearance of his brother and as he finds out, the scientist turned into a real outcast, who has alienated himself completely from the outer world and has been secretly working on a mysterious machine, which, according to his calculations, could separate one’s consciousness from his
physical appearance.

GAME FEATURES :

* Musical background, combining elements of dark-ambient and neoclassic and recorded by Anthesteria project is one of the main components of immersing into the world of Sublustrum includes individual sound design for each location.
* Explore the surroundings of a highly-detailed photorealistic gameplay, which combines the elements of Victorian style, modern, steam-punk, industrial aesthetics and retro-futurism in the best traditions of Myst and Scratches.
* A mystic and philosophic plot that explores the boundaries between dream and reality. Action takes place in a surreal atmosphere of the first half of XX century and touches aspects of one’s mentality, unconscious condition and internal conflicts.

If nothing else, Devastation is ambitious. Digitalo Studios' futuristic first-person shooter features more than 35 weapons, arcade-style and tactical modes of play, computer-controlled teammates, a detailed physics model, and single-player missions that incorporate "botmatch"-style base attack and defense objectives (that is, both you and your opponents are aided by computer-controlled "bot" characters). Unfortunately, Devastation tries to be a jack-of-all-trades, but is master of none, and it's lacking in a few key areas.

high-action, teamplay-oriented first-person shooter powered by heavily modified, next-generation Unreal Engine tech. Set on post-apocalyptic Earth, Devastation pits teams of rebelling street fighters, gang eaders, mercenaries, and ex-military operatives against overwhelming armies of high-tech corporate troopers. Survival, and ultimate dominance, are all that matter in this devastated world.

Hollywood-style explosions and in-your-face special effects showcase awesome particle physics including explosive headshots, flowing water and blood, amazing weapons effects and realistic fire created by the amazing "OFX" VisualFX system with full harware T&L support. Incredible next-generation AI that gives enemies and NPCs micro-behaviors and heightened awareness, while teammates provide intelligent cooperation and assistance - they almost seem too real. Completely interactive environment with real world physics; everything can be used, destroyed or manipulated. Set traps with the garbage in the streets, or use a broken bottle to slash your way to victory. More than 30 unique weapons, including machine guns, swords, handguns, sniper weapons and incredible Rat Drones that allow you to "become the weapon".

Objective-based single player campaign, incorporating special skills like stealth, surveillance, hacking into security systems, sniping, and brute force. 32 massive photorealistic levels based off real-world textures, including 20 single player and 12 multiplayer maps, set in four stunning environments in the US and Asia. All the favorite multiplayer standards, including traditional head to head and competitive games, with both Arcade and Simulation settings - something for everyone, including an exciting new style of multiplayer gaming. Superior sound, from the ability to use noise to distract enemies or alert team mates, to the cutting edge soundtrack by Messy, the techno rebirth of members of Love & Rockets.

Like so many other action games, Devastation places you in the role of a rebel who must fight against an oppressive corporation that now controls most of the world. Devastation uses a bunch of clichéd events and settings to pound this familiar theme into a mush that is indistinguishable from plenty of other generic shooters. There's the subway level, the sewer level, the warehouse level, the part where you have to single-handedly fight an attack chopper, and the level where you get conked on the head, stripped of your weapons, and tossed in jail (though as it turns out, Devastation takes away your weapons and tosses you in jail not once, but twice).

Though freedom was obviously the first victim of Devastation's totalitarian corporate state, garbage collection appears to have been a close second. The game's Unreal-engine powered environments are filled with trash. It's never explicitly stated just what, exactly, the evil corporation is selling, but from the general makeup of the debris, it's probably soft drinks, Chinese food, or oil barrels. A lot of this busted-up bric-a-brac actually exists as independent objects in the world, all affected by an at least theoretically realistic physics model. For instance, you can shoot a milk crate in its upper left corner, and it'll tumble over its rear left axis.

The physics system is a neat idea, but, as implemented, it suffers from two major problems. The first is that the rules governing the physics are spotty at best. Often objects will simply get stuck--on walls, on ceilings, or even in midair. If you pick something up and toss it down at your feet, it'll either disappear completely or become half-buried in the ground. The imprecision of the bounding box around your character causes you to constantly knock things over, as if you were navigating the world while wearing a bulky and invisible costume. In fact, the physics will often make you feel that you're not playing an action-packed shooter, but rather a simulation of being the world's clumsiest action hero.

With November ticking closer, Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare dons its battle armor for one more pre-release bonanza coming for PC fans. Activision's just let the word out that a playable demo for PCs will be released within this week, and interested recruits would find the list of mirror download sites at the official Call of Duty web site when the demo is released.

And because the demo's coming out real soon, the publisher has also listed down the system requirements for the game at the top and low end of game's spectrum. The technical specifications for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare follow:

Recommended system requirements

* CPU: 2.4 GHz dual core or better is recommended
* RAM: 1 GB for XP; 2 GB for Vista is recommended
* Harddrive: 8 GB of free hard drive space
* Video card: 3.0 Shader Support recommended. Nvidia Geforce 7800 or better or ATI Radeon X1800 or better

Minimum system requirements

* CPU: Intel® Pentium® 4 2.4 GHz or AMD® Athlon™ 64 2800+ processor or any 1.8Ghz Dual Core Processor or better supported

Company of Heroes trades a wide breadth of content for an extremely detailed look at WWII-era ground combat, and its action is so fast paced that it's best suited for the reflexes of an experienced RTS player. So if you're unfazed by any of that, you'll find that this latest real-time strategy game from the developers of Homeworld and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is one of the best, most dramatic and exciting examples in years.

If you've played Relic's last real-time strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War, you'll note that many of these conventions were derived and extended from that game. However, Company of Heroes still plays quite differently from Dawn of War because of the nature of its densely packed battlefields and its even greater focus on unit tactics. You have some very interesting options to consider, such as how, when faced with an antitank gun manned by a squad of three, you may attempt to destroy the thing altogether with heavy weapons, or flank the gun and kill its squad, taking the artillery piece for your own. Heavy machine guns and other special weapons work much the same way. One of the great things about Company of Heroes is that, in spite of its somewhat glamorized portrayal of World War II, the game looks and behaves realistically, in how the sorts of tactical maneuvers that are central to the gameplay feel intuitive in practice. For example, you'll naturally want to avoid making your infantry rush a machine gun nest head-on, especially since the withering fire from a German MG42 will force your squad to drop prone, pinned down.
